Making a family whole

There's nothing more fulfilling than when a street child is reintegrated with their family. Kimbilio's social workers put in tremendous effort and a lot of time to making these reconciliations work. Today, we have two great stories to share.

First: Fabrice is back home with his mother! After his parents divorced, his father remarried. Fabrice's stepmother was abusive, and Fabrice ran away from home. He spent a year living on the streets, after which he came to Kimbilio. He spent 3 months living at the boys transit house while the Kimbilio team worked toward reuniting Fabrice with his biological mother. Despite the extreme poverty in which his mother lives, Fabrice was in agreement with the Kimbilio team that going home to her was the right thing to do. Fabrice is now 14 years old and while he has not been in school, we are hopeful that Kimbilio can fund his school attendance for the coming academic year. Photos below are of Fabrice and his mother, and then of the two of them with the Kimbilio team members who accompanied Fabrice home.

Second: we have an update on Irène. A year ago, she was reunited with her family in Kalemie. You can read about that reunification from our earlier blog post here. This past week, the Rt Rev. Bertin Subi, Bishop of Katanga, and Dean Clement Beya had the opportunity to visit with Irène. She's doing well -- we'll let these photos speak for themselves!
