Jean-Claude came to Kimbilio in 2013 as a 14 year old street child. A couple of weeks ago, he graduated from the University of Lubumbashi. He is an inspiration to all of us. Here is his story, in his own words, in French. Click here if you want to skip to the English translation.
Je m’appelle Ndenga Mulula Jean-Claude. Je suis le fils de William Akilimali et de Maman Mujinga. Je suis le cadet d’une famille de deux garçons.
Mon histoire a commencé dans la douleur. Nous avons perdu nos parents très tôt. Abandonnés par la famille, mon frère et moi nous sommes retrouvés à la rue. Nous dormions au marché, sous les abris de fortune. Nous n’avions ni avenir, ni espoir.
Mais Dieu avait un plan pour moi.
En 2013, à l’âge de 14 ans, Kimbilio est venu me chercher. Je suis entré à la Maison Transit. Pendant 6 mois, j’ai vu ma vie changer du jour au lendemain. Pour la première fois, j’ai retrouvé la dignité, l’amour et la sécurité.
En 2015, Kimbilio m’a transféré au [Maison Josué MANDA] pour aller à l’école. C’était le début d’une nouvelle vie. J’ai repris les études en 4ᵉ primaire à l’école Kilima. Avec beaucoup de persévérance, j’ai obtenu mon Certificat d’Études Primaires, puis j’ai continué jusqu’en 3ᵉ secondaire. Même après ma réintégration en famille autonome, Kimbilio ne m’a pas abandonné. L’organisation a continué à payer mes études.
En 2022, j’ai obtenu mon Diplôme d’État en Électricité de Bâtiment. Et l’histoire ne s’est pas arrêtée là. Monsieur Ian m’a donné une autre chance : celle de faire l’université, avec la prise en charge totale. En même temps, toute l’équipe de Kimbilio m’a fait confiance en me donnant l’opportunité de travailler comme sous-encadreur.
J’ai choisi la filière Agronomie parce que je rêvais de devenir Ingénieur Agronome pour aider mon pays. Aujourd’hui, par la grâce de Dieu, j’ai obtenu mon Diplôme d’Ingénieur en Production Végétale.
Je ne serais jamais arrivé ici sans Kimbilio. C’est pourquoi du fond du cœur, je dis merci à :

My name is Ndenga Mulula Jean-Claude. I am the son of William Akilimali and Maman Mujinga. I am the younger of two boys.
My story began in pain. We lost our parents at a very young age. Abandoned by our family, my brother and I ended up on the streets. We slept in the market under makeshift shelters. We had neither a future nor hope.
But God had a plan for me.
In 2013, at the age of 14, Kimbilio took me in. I entered the Transit House. Over the course of six months, I saw my life change overnight. For the first time, I regained my dignity, love, and a sense of security.
In 2015, Kimbilio transferred me to the Kimbilio Luwowoshi Centre so I could attend school. It was the start of a new life. I resumed my studies in the fourth year of primary school at Kilima School. Through great perseverance, I obtained my Primary School Certificate and continued my education up to the third year of secondary school. Even after I was reintegrated into an independent family setting, Kimbilio did not abandon me. The organization continued to pay for my education.
In 2022, I obtained my State Diploma in Building Electricity. And the story didn’t end there. Mr. Ian gave me another chance: the opportunity to attend university with full financial support. At the same time, the entire Kimbilio team placed their trust in me by giving me the opportunity to work as an assistant carer.
I chose to study agronomy because I dreamed of becoming an agronomist to help my country. Today, by the grace of God, I have obtained my degree in Crop Production Engineering.
I would never have made it here without Kimbilio. That is why, from the bottom of my heart, I say thank you to: Mr. Ian, Mr. Joël Kidindwe, Maman Carine, Brother Rodrigue, all the caregivers, and the entire Kimbilio management team in England.
