Learning English in DR Congo

Updated: Nov 12

DR Congo is a country of many languages. More than 200 languages are spoken. Locally, Kimbilio's community speaks Swahili. Nationwide, French is the official language since colonial times, and hence is the one that prevails in the education system.

The Kimbilio Mapendo School strives to offer an education that serves its community optimally. Hence there are offerings in information technology training, sports, the arts...and the English language. French is the main language at school, but the importance of learning English in DR Congo is recognized and so the language is taught at the primary school level.

Children are able to study English with the talented instructor Chadrack KASONGO. They learn to count out loud, read numbers, and practice basic conversational skills. In the impoverished community in which we operate, the parents of Kimbilio's students express immense satisfaction that their children have this opportunity. We hope you'll love this post's good morning video -- how could you not? -- as well as the classroom photos below.
