Kimbilio School: An Exceptional Start to the School Year

September 1 was the start of the new academic year at the Kimbilio Mapendo School. The month of September was very successful, and current enrollment at the school is 360 children.

Joel Kidindwe is Kimbilio's school liaison and artiste extraordinaire. Among his many responsibilities are teaching art to children and serving as the link between the Kimbilio Mapendo School and the schools in the UK that support it. Here Joel describes the hiccup in the earliest days of September -- when only 67 students attended! -- followed by the rapid growth in attendance and the joy of the return to school. We start with Joel's own words in French. Click here to go to the English translation.

The 2026-2027 school year began on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Kimbilio School. The atmosphere was unique, marked initially by a certain hesitancy regarding student numbers and a lack of the usual festive buzz.

This hesitancy stems from a long-standing habit; parents and students were accustomed to starting the school year a week into September—typically on the 5th or 7th, depending on the year.

Our on-the-ground inquiries revealed that most parents were unhappy about the year starting on the very first working day of September for two main reasons:

1. Most had not yet secured the necessary funds or school supplies.

2. For others, salaries are often not paid until the 5th of the month.

Despite this, it promises to be a great school year—one that will encourage parents to plan ahead at the end of future holidays so that September no longer becomes a month of frustration for their children.

OUR OBSERVATIONS: EXEMPLARY MOTIVATION

According to the liaison coordination team, the students are highly motivated. During recess, we see and feel the atmosphere and the vibrant energy of the playground. It is a lively courtyard that radiates the joy of learning and coming together. The shouts, games, and laughter are a testament to a school full of life.

Inside the classrooms, there is total concentration. One can sense the motivation and determination to improve and succeed. The students are attentive, engaged, and ambitious. This bodes well for excellent results at the end of the 2026–2027 school year.

We wish all the students at Kimbilio School a wonderful and productive school year!
