It's back-to-school!

The Kimbilio team worked hard to prepare for the start of the new school year...which was today! September 2 is in fact the official start of the school year across the DR Congo. In advance, at the Kimbilio Mapendo School, classroom walls got fresh paint, chalkboards got prepped, uniforms and supplies were purchased, and more. With great pride, the team welcomed the children back today!

Kimbilio built the school over 2 years and it opened in 2021. It is a brick building with a corrugated iron sheet roofing. The school has 14 rooms -- 2 offices, 1 storage room, 1 library and 10 classrooms. The school started as a primary school, and has added secondary school classes in the afternoons to enable its primary school graduates to continue their studies. In the photos, in addition to some of the back-to-school prep, you can see the original concept for the school, the building in progress, and the realization of a great dream.

The school is tremendously successful. The 300+ children attending would not be able to go to school if it weren't for Kimbilio.

We'll share photos of the big first week shortly.
