Fourteen year old Gloria is living with her biological family again! She had left her maternal aunt's house because of mistreatment, and was fortunate to have had local social services workers of the Congolese government, with whom we partner, transfer dGloria to Kimbilio. She's been at our transit house for girls for the past 6 months while our team performed the consuming work of seeking out and building a relationship with her family. The International Bureau for Children’s Rights (IBCR) has organised a workshop with 20 children from different Non-Governmental Organisations to be part of the Consulting Committee for Child Rights. Four children are representing Kimbilio, and they are shown in this photo with Kimbilio Director Carine Bahati on the day of the first session. The work is in the context of improving the child protection system in the DR Congo. The next session will be in about 2 months.

Kimbilio had the pleasure to receive a visit from UK representatives of Street Child United, an organisation who use the power of sport to provide a global platform for StreetChildren , so they can demand the protection, support, and opportunities every child needs. The delegation met with children supported by Kimbilio at our day centre, homes and school and were present for a football match played by former street children.

In celebration of International Women’s Day 2024, Kimbilio’s girls (former street children) and women team members enjoyed a rare trip to a pizza restaurant in Lubumbashi city centre. Many of these girls will never have eaten in a restaurant before making it a very special treat. We hope that it demonstrated to them how much they are valued and respected, something else that they have not experienced before. Often one of the drivers for children ending up on the streets is do
