Congo Children Trust has had a long-term ambition to provide vocational training for former street children, to help us fulfil our vision to enable children to have a hope-filled future, becoming fully integrated back into society. So we were so excited earlier this year when we were awarded a grant by TK Foundation towards the building of a purpose built vocational college at Luowoshi next to the site of our existing Kimbilio Primary and Secondary School building.  As soon as the dry season started in April we started making the bricks for this project on our site.

During the visit of Congo Children Trust Director, Ian Harvey, in August, the foundation stone was laid by the Anglican Bishop of Katanga, Bertin Subi. We were delighted to welcome a team of Congolese break dancers led by Merveille Slas, to help us celebrate.

Since then the building team have been hard at work on the foundations which are now complete and we expect to see the walls going up over the next few weeks. The team are keen to make progress before the wet season starts in October and the rain make the roads to Kimbilio impassible for the heavy lorries bringing the building materials.

Once fully operational the Kimbilio Vocational College will provide training in hair dressing, sewing, auto mechanics, IT, electrics, business skills, agriculture and carpentry.

Enjoy the video of the groundbreaking ceremony and celebration and some photos of the fabulous work on the foundation. You might also enjoy looking back at a blog post we did about Kimbilio's incredible construction leader, Papa David.

Groundbreaking for the new vocational college, August 2025.
