A message from Ian Harvey

Following is a message from Ian Harvey, the founder of Kimbilio and Director of Congo Children Trust:

We are concerned by the unfolding conflict in eastern D.R.C. which has led to the taking over of Goma by rebel militia. The conflict has led to thousands of people being displaced and living in camps for displaced persons. Access to the essentials such as health care, food and water are not readily available. The national leaders are attempting to find solutions to the decades long conflict. It is our hope and prayer that a peaceful solution can be quickly found to prevent further death and suffering for the children and families who are innocent victims in this relentless conflict. The situation remains calm in Lubumbashi where Kimbilio is based, however a night time curfew has been imposed to prevent any potential linked uprising in the area. We are aware that with such large numbers of displaced persons in the eastern region there is potential for some of them to journey to the urban areas such as Lubumbashi in search of support and income. This may lead to a further increase of children living on the streets in Lubumbashi.
